After I moved back to NY, I lived at my parents house in the country for a while. Well one night I was getting ready for bed and kept hearing a squeaking sound. It sounded like it was in my room but no matter where I looked I didn’t find anything. Now it’s summer and I had the window open, so I just thought it must have been something outside my window. So I simply closed the window.
Well the sound keep happening… “sewweeek skweeek eek” and I was lying there getting pissed off. I finally said to myself “Damn thing!” and went out the back door and kicked around in the grass making all kinds of noise in hopes to scare whatever it was away. I went back inside, hopped in to bed and said “finally! I can get some sleep” with a smug smile on my face.
“Skeeek eek” Son of a bitch! “What the hell is that?!” I said to myself. Got up and searched my room once again only to find nothing. I even rattled everything in there hoping to scare whatever it was out of hiding. I turned the fan on high to drown out the sound and fell asleep… finally. I begin to dream, strange I’m dreaming of my room. *Flap flap flap!* wings are in my face! Some sort of creature from hell is attacking me in my dream!
This startles me and wakes me from my sleep. When I wake up from a dream like that I usually end up thinking I’m still in the dream and jumped out of bed, flew out the door running for dear life! In all my panic I catch my toe next to the big toe on the carpet and SNAP! Ohhhh that hurt so bad. I immediately snapped out of it and realized it was all just a dream. So I limped back to bed and went to sleep.
The next day I went to work and the more I walked on it I realized my toe was broken ha! How stupid, I broke my toe because of a dream! The stupid squeeking in my room made my imagination run wild and dream of stupid things that get me hurt! I get home later that night to tell my dad what had happened and as I was telling him the story I look down and see what looks like a leaf.”What is that?” As I lean down I realize its not a leaf at all… its a bat! Which makes me realize that damn squeeking in my bedroom was the bat which most likely was really flying in my face. It was lying there sleeping right on our living room floor! We scooped him up and put him outside in the woods and that was the end of it.
Sometimes dreams can seem so real and life can seem so surreal. How will we ever really know the true reality of life when we rely simply on senses to tell us its real. Senses can be so easily tricked or confused.
